Self Deception - Egret

I woke up from a nap and looked into the mirror. Made a face the mirror didn’t return. My eyes are there—blinking, unsure whose side they’re on. My ears, listening for something that already happened. Mouth. Teeth. Too many teeth. A nose that feels borrowed. All of it, assembled loosely, like someone played face-jigsaw in the dark. Too many parts in the right places, or maybe just enough in the wrong ones. Either way, it smiled.
